Welcome to Truro Council #856 Web Site!

About Us

UCT is a blend of men and women joined by the motto "People helping People".  Truro Council #856 received its charter in 1963 with a membership of 30 led by Guy Maxwell.

Our first major project was the construction of Butler Center in Truro providing a much needed sheltered workshop and training center for the Intellectually Disabled.  Prior to this facility training for special education was scarce and scattered.  This project was immensely successful from the start and continued its strong community focus for many years.  Truro Council initially raised funds by operating a canteen at hockey games at our local stadium.

Our Council gained National recognition for one of our later projects called Powder Puff Derby.  This was an annual highly popular Horse Race at the Truro Raceway featuring licensed female drivers from the Maritimes.  (read more here)

On a local level we offer members an opportunity to become active in monthly meetings, community service projects, golf and curling tournaments, social times as well as many other council activities.  UCT Membership makes you eligible for several insurance products and discount programs.
